The main difference is the technician MUST work for an irrigator, so if you are wanting to own your own business, you need to be a Licensed Irrigator. This allows you to pull city permits, do design work and bid jobs.

The second difference is the length and cost of the training:

Licensed irrigator: 4 days and $550

Licensed technician: 2 days and $350

Finally, the technician exam is given in Spanish as well as English; therefore, we do the class is full Spanish OR an English-only class with Spanish handouts.  The irrigator is English ONLY.

The state of texas defines an "occupational license" to mean "a license, certificate, registration, permit, or other form of authorization, including a renewal of the authorization, that a person must obtain to practice or engage in a particular business, occupation, or profession; or a facility must obtain before a particular business, occupation, or profession is practiced or engaged in within the facility".
